Xbox vs. Playstation: From the PS2 to the 360
Choosing a game console these days is less about which manufacturer is the best and more about what you want your game console to do for you. When choosing between buying an Xbox 360 and PS2 or PS3 you need to consider some key factors:
Game Selection – There are two parts to game selection: Exclusive titles and the quality of multiplatform games. The majority of Xbox 360 reviews have the Xbox 360 winning on both counts – multiplatform games tend to come out quicker for Xbox 360 and the exclusive Xbox 360 titles are industry leaders.
Graphics – For multiplatform games, the Xbox never falters; at times the Sony PS3 suffers major quality loss on some titles. For exclusive titles the consoles are on par.
Price – The Xbox 360 wins the price battle, but don’t write off the Playstation 2; for a very affordable price you get a console that plays some of the best games of all time! With the PS3, of course, there’s the huge bonus of owning a console with a built in blue ray DVD player.
Performance – Many believe the Sony Playstation 3 to be an, as yet, untapped resource; it’s growing stronger as developers get their heads around the sheer power of this machine. The Xbox may get left behind in the future, but as it stands the two consoles are equal.
Multimedia - For DVD playback, the Sony PS3 wins hands down with better quality, quieter functionality and larger support of all video formats. It also boasts a built-in blue ray DVD player.
Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 are 'HD ready' but the Xbox pushes the envelope all the way to the max HD capacity of 1080i.
Online capability – Xbox Live is, hands down, everyone’s favourite platform for interactive online gaming. You will have to buy an Xbox Live subscription (totally worth it) and you’ll also need memory (either an Xbox hard drive or memory card).

Of course, the Xbox is a lot more cost effective than the PS3, but considering that blue ray has been proclaimed the future format of DVDs, and many blue ray players still cost more than a Sony Playstation 3, you’re getting more than your money’s worth.

Playstation 2
