FULL HD VS HD READY TVS

High definition (HD) is a term that is often used when discussing state-of-the-art televisions. Many people use the words without actually understanding what they mean, and what their implication is on one’s home entertainment system. Before purchasing a new television, whether it is a plasma or LCD screen TV, you should understand the difference between full HD and HD ready television sets.

What is HD?

HD is the term given to television displays with a resolution that is higher than standard television sets.

Televisions are frequently rated by the number of pixels on their screen. This is most often expressed as a ratio between the vertical and horizontal pixels. For a television to be considered HD compatible, it must have a resolution of 1280x720 pixels or more. This is much higher than a standard television, which predominantly has a ratio of 720x480 pixels. The increased number of pixels allows for a sharper image to be displayed on the screen.

What is the difference between HD ready and full HD TVs?

HD Ready Full HD

With the popularity of HDTV on the rise, many individuals are looking to upgrade their current television with a new high-definition unit. But it isn’t as simple as just purchasing an HDTV. Before you get down to the specifics, you have to decide whether a full HD or HD ready TV will best suit your needs and budget.

Full HDTVs offer better picture quality, with a resolution of up to 1920x1080 pixels, than HD ready units. Signals with the same or lesser resolution are no challenge for a full HD screen and will appear crisp and clear.

Alternately, HD ready TVs are only intended to be used for a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. But if the signal comprises more pixels, an HD ready unit will reduce the resolution in order to make it compatible with the TV’s resolution capabilities. This process will affect the quality of the signal and the image will not be as flawless as on a full HDTV.

Why choose an HD ready TV?

Full HDTVs are the best choice for an impressive and unforgettable home entertainment experience, but they are the more exclusive option. The cost of an HDTV is directly related to the quality of the image it displays and can be out of many consumers’ price ranges.

Since high definition is still a relatively new technology, full HDTVs’ prices are still out of many people’s reach. However, an HD ready television provides viewers with a similar experience for a fraction of the cost. Although the picture quality is slightly lower than that of a full HDTV, an HD ready TV is compatible with the format and is able to display a full HD signal, albeit with reduced resolution.
