The iLuv i552 is a feature-rich and stylish portable docking system.
The curvaceous unit, includes adapters to accommodate the various models of iPod which are charged when the i552 is plugged into AC power.
Just in front of the standard iPod dock is a rather unique feature: an iPod shuffle dock. Basically an upward-facing USB port, this dock is hidden behind a small, flip-up door; it holds your iPod upright and grabs audio from the shuffle’s USB connector.
On the front face of the unit there are volume and search (tuning) knobs with the LCD screen in between. The screen displays the current play mode with the control buttons for AM/FM, Play/Pause, Program/Reset, and Power just below this screen.
The iLuv i552 sound quality is comparable to other portable systems offering good sound in this price range. The system’s small (2-inch) drivers offer bass response, and good treble detail.
This portable unit offers superb additional features including an easy to use remote control, FM/AM radio which offers good performance on strong stations as well as an wide array of connection hosts with an auxiliary line-in minijack; headphone minijack; AC input and AV output minijack.
Overall, the iLuv i552 is appealing for its value offering, with more features than other docks in this price range and for a unit of its size produces good output sound.
